Position Summary
Need to provide lean implementation, lean advisory, and strategic supplier development project support for critical and preferred suppliers to MNC as well as develop lean assessment methods and training for SCM resources. The role adds value by providing a valuable resource to mentor and teach suppliers how to implement key lean process innovation tools. The core purpose is to have a direct impact on improving suppliers KPIs including Cost, Capacity, Margin and Revenue. Improving supplier performance utilizing proactive strategies and proven lean tools will support SCMs and Operations strategic initiatives. Flexible capacity, capacity planning, and capacity optimization are keys to MNC’ operational planning for suppliers. Another key element for this role is train our SCM procurement team in lean elements in order to support effective supplier relationships.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with Commodity Managers and Operations SCM to determine which suppliers are candidates
- Perform onsite rapid lean assessments and provide suppliers support on lean tools, including all phases of lean implementation with a focus on capacity improvement, cost improvement, quality, OTD, lead-times
- Lead kaizen and support specific projects
- Develop project plans and execution for assigned projects
- Participates in Commodity Strategy development efforts, concentrating on supplier capability enhancement and/or rationalization.
- Partners with Supplier Quality Engineers to enhance our standard assessments
- Trains MNC SCM team members in lean and Six Sigma tools as well as onsite rapid assessments
- Participates in Commodity Strategy development efforts, concentrating on supplier capability enhancement and/or rationalization.
- Interface and coordinate with Engineering and Manufacturing for Supplier VA/VE programs.
- Train suppliers on Lean and support onsite Kaizen
- Close coordination with operations, SCM, and Supplier Quality required
- Develop training and certification plans for MNC team
- Develop an overall Supplier Lean Development strategy including resource plan, budget, and timelines
Qualifications and Skills
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Operations, Business Administration, and/or Engineering
- Minimum of 8 years of experience working in a complex supply chain organization
- Solid Experience with Six Sigma, Kaizen or Lean methodology or all three.
- Role requires independence and initiative to lead lean kaizen
- Inter-personal skills are a requirement as is self-management and change management
- Bi-Lingual (Mandarin and English) with a cross cultural awareness (US and Europe)
- Greatest challenge is leading suppliers as an outside customer through the lean continuous improvement process
- Travel up to 50% of the time, including internationally.
Preferred:
- MS or MBA candidate a plus
- Knowledge of Continuous Improvement methodologies such as Lean and Six Sigma a plus
- Material Review Board (MRB) experience.
- Working use proficiency in MS Office product (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
- Ability to problem solve, exercising creativity with practical solutions.
- Lean Practitioner and evidence of successes.
- ASQ Certification in Quality Engineering is a plus.
- Six Sigma Master Black Belt, Black Belt, and/or Green Belt certification preferred.
